Ako Academy, having a passionate Te Reo Māori teacher as a founder, has embarked on a transformative journey with the Kōkiri Business Accelerator programme. With their visionary business idea, Ako Academy aims to revolutionise language learning by developing an AI-driven application specifically designed for beginner to intermediate learners of Te Reo Māori. By making language learning accessible, engaging, and interactive, Ako Academy seeks to empower individuals with the confidence and competence to use Te Reo Māori in everyday contexts.  

The inspiration for Ako Academy’s groundbreaking concept came from the personal experience of the founders, Natalia Wi. As a second language learner who embarked on the journey of learning Te Reo Māori alongside her children, they pondered how this transformative experience could be digitally replicated for others. This realisation ignited their passion for creating an innovative language learning platform that would bridge the gap between traditional teaching methods and modern technological advancements. 

Over the next 12 months, Ako Academy has set ambitious goals for themselves. Their immediate focus is on developing a minimum viable product (MVP). This MVP will serve as a foundation for the subsequent development of a fully functional app that will be launched in the market. Initially targeting corporate users, Ako Academy aims to provide accessible language learning opportunities to a wide range of individuals. After establishing a foothold in the corporate sector, they plan to expand their reach to the public.  

The Ako Academy team believes they are the right individuals to spearhead this transformative idea.  They possess a deep understanding of the needs and challenges faced by language learners. This expertise enables them to develop a solution that creates a safe and supportive environment for learners to thrive.
